Chick-fil-A has agreed to stop funding antigay groups, a Chicago alderman told the Chicago Tribune.
The fast food chain drew controversy this year when its president made public statements against same-sex marriage.
Proco "Joe" Moreno is the alderman who opposed a proposed Chick-fil-A restaurant on Chicago's north side. He told the newspaper he would now allow the chain to open the store after the company agreed to include a statement of respect for all sexual orientations in an internal document, the paper said.
He said the company also promised its nonprofit arm would not contribute to groups that oppose gay marriage.
The memo, to be called "Chick-fil-A: Who We Are," will be distributed to all corporate employees and restaurant operators, Moreno told the paper.
It will say the company is committed to treating "every person with honor, dignity and respect -- regardless of their beliefs, race, creed, sexual orientation or gender," the Tribune reported.
